Shelly Berg Trio featuring the incredibly talented pianist Shelly Berg, drummer Dafnis Prieto, and bassist Clark Sommers will be taking over Highland Park in Illinois this October. Ravinia Festival 2024 will be returning to the Pavilion from June 8 until November 16, welcoming the uplifting music from Shelly Berg’s most recent project, as well as jazz favorites.

If you didn’t already know, Shelly Berg is a Steinway piano artist who also stands tall as a multi-Grammy nominated arranger and producer. Landed in June 2024 via ArtistShare, his latest album Alegría is recorded alongside the bassist Carlitos Del Puerto and drummer Dafnis Prieto. Just like Shelly Berg’s previous albums, this composition is stunning. His last album Gershwin Reimagined: An American in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was so amazing that it was praised as “A magnificent tribute to the genius of George Gershwin, chock-full of major musical talent and delivered in superb sound,” by Colin Clarke in Fanfare. Meanwhile, singer Michael Feinstein described it as “a bold leap in creating a hybrid mixture of seminal Gershwin that is fresh, inspiring and virtuosic.”

With a rich catalog of music behind Shelly Berg, it’s no surprise that he has a number of accolades lining his trophy shelf. The jazz star was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals category for “I Loves You Porgy / There’s a Boat That’s Leavin’ Soon for New York” from the 2018 album Rendezvous. Shelly Berg was also nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocals category for his arrangement of “Be My Muse” on Lorraine Feather’s 2015 album Flirting with Disaster , as well as his stunning arrangement of “What a Wonderful World” on 2014’s Gloria Estefan: The Standards, and “Out There” on 2013’s Lorraine Feather’s Tales of the Unusual.
